About Us

In 2007 designer Jaime Lawson set out to revive the the garter industry, which had been asleep for decades, getting comfortable with fluffy pillows of passé lace and scrunchie-like poly satins. The often overlooked accessory had so much potential, and with that she created the much-lauded Bleu Garters. Jaime drew from her background as a ballerina to determine flattering proportions for the female body, her Physics degree to engineer new elastic methods so that the silky tie garter would not shimmy down the leg, and fashion design studies to choose eye candy colors, drool-worthy laces, intricate beading, and timeless fabrics.

Jaime currently lives in Los Angeles, where she also worked for luxury design house Rodarte while continuing to build Bleu Garters. Jaime is also a wardrobe stylist for celebrities, photo shoots, and short films, including shoots for Nordstrom, Macy's and BMW.

Excerpt from a 2012 interview:

"I find inspiration in the pure celebration of love! To be a part of someone’s wedding day is a touching, and thrilling, experience... and to give them something which reminds them of that day is even more special.
When I was designing custom wedding gowns for brides, I had countless requests for garters. I couldn’t find any garters on the market that were modern, luxurious, and classy. The garter had really been neglected for decades, and most existing styles had not evolved for the contemporary bride. It had the potential to be an alluring, fun, and beautiful finishing touch. If that weren’t enough, it could become a personalized heirloom keepsake, similar to a piece of jewelry, much easier to keep accessible or on display than a large wedding dress; hence, Bleu Garters was born!
I scour antique marts and fabric dealers to find the most beautiful laces, and finish them off with a luxurious silk-satin ribbon. With a nod to the traditional garter, we also make fabric garters created from fine silks and taffetas in gorgeous colors.

We pride ourselves on being an eco-friendly company, handmaking all garters in the U.S.A., avoiding excessive shipping all over the world, and using natural/reusing antique materials when possible.

I am very proud that we handmake our garters here in California. I would love to see more manufacturing done in the U.S.A. Not only is it eco-friendly, but it also supports job creation and the concept of community."
